Box Hill closed this week for maintenance works

Works required to restore roadside verges Zig Zag Road on Box Hill, the South of England’s best known climb for cyclists, is closed to all traffic this week as contractors undertake work to repair roadside verges.

Site owners the National Trust say that the ascent in Surrey, used in the road races at the London 2012 Olympic Games, will be completely closed tomorrow (Wednesday) for 24 hours.

The road will be partially closed during the rest of this week ahead of the climb – the most popular Strava segment in the UK in 2015 – being reopened for the weekend. To restore the roadside verges, half of the Box Hill Zig Zag Road will be closed either side of the car park and café for the week commencing 11 January 2016 from 8am to 6pm. We will ensure the car park and café can be accessed from one side or the other during this time. We are expecting that on 11 and 12 January the lower half of Zig Zag Road will be closed and on 14 and 15 January that the upper part will be closed.
