This video of Orica-GreenEdge’s Caleb Ewan perfectly shows his incredible missile-like sprinting technique 24 January 2016 18th Tour Down Under Stage 06 : Adelaide – Adelaide 1st : EWAN Caleb (AUS) Orica – GreenEDGE Photo : Yuzuru SUNADA His nickname is the Pocket Rocket, thanks to his diminutive stature and powerful sprint, but Caleb Ewan’s technique in the fast finishes gives that name a whole new meaning.
The 21-year-old gets so low and so far forward over his handlebars when sprinting that he actually looks like a missile as he powers towards the line.
Even with 100m to go in the final sprint of the Tour Down Under in Adelaide , Ewan was in full flow – a bike length ahead of his nearest rivals for the stage.
His style is certainly working, having won the Mitchelton Bay criteriums at the start of the season, as well as the Australian crit championships , the People’s Choice Classic and two stages of the Tour Down Under.
The Australian won his first Grand Tour stage at the 2015 Vuelta a España and will undoubtedly be one to look out for at the Giro d’Italia this May.
